The mark of distinction: what you need to know before getting your first tattoo

When is the best time to get a tattoo?

The best time to get a tattoo is in the fall, winter and early spring. This is due to the relatively low solar radiation. During these seasons, we usually wear warm clothing that hides a fresh tattoo. When we get a tattoo from October to March, we minimize the risk of irritation and fading of the tattoo.

At the same time, we should keep in mind that the risk of flu and other viral diseases increases in the fall and winter. If they are not that serious, they are not an absolute contraindication to tattooing. However, these diseases can significantly weaken the immune system and as a consequence, prolong the healing time of the tattoo.

Rules for taking care of a fresh tattoo

About what should be in the first days after the application, not a little has been said all along, but the most basic is in a few actions.

The primary bandage, which was imposed by the master, it is recommended to remove not earlier than 2 hours. After that it is necessary to wash it with warm water. It is desirable not to use simple soap, but antibacterial soap. Make sure that the water pressure is not too high, as there is a risk of washing out the pigment. Do not rub the skin, just rinse it gently with water and dab it with a paper towel. For a more delicate treatment, you can wait until it dries on its own or use a cold stream of air from a hair dryer.

Then you can let the tattoo "breathe" leaving it open for 20 minutes, and then apply the remedy recommended by the master, which will accelerate the healing, and at the same time will have antibacterial properties. Do not abuse the product, a thin layer will be enough.

Step 3: regeneration

If the tattoo is dry and there is no inflammation, move on to the next stage. It usually takes about 3 days. You need to apply a healing agent to the surface of the tattoo 4-8 times a day. And protect the tattoo from external influences:

  • Avoid getting moisture on the tattoo;
  • Protect the tattoo from being rubbed by clothing;
  • Protect the tattoo from dirt and UV exposure;
  • Do not scratch the tattoo or remove the crust.

Clothing related to the tattoo areas should be clean and loose fitting. Prefer cotton fabrics (not wool, silk or synthetics).

Under no circumstances should you wet the tattoo or remove the crust. The tattoo may be itchy, but do not scratch it in any way: liberally apply a healing agent, it will neutralize the itching for a while.

Sign of the end of stage 3: complete, self-contained peeling off the crust from the entire surface of the tattoo. The tattoo now looks quite healed, but the skin on it is very thin. It is possible that the skin will renew itself again (peel off like after a sunburn).

IMPORTANT: During first 3 stages it is strictly FORBIDDEN to take water procedures, baths, saunas, solar baths and actively engaged in contact sports. DO NOT bring your tattoo into contact with dirty surfaces, animal hair, silk or synthetics. DO NOT consume any drugs or alcohol!

Necessary restrictions

During the healing period, it is worth adhering to a certain number of restrictions, namely:

  • Avoid cosmetics that contain oil, or avoid getting oil on .
  • Avoid prolonged exposure of the skin to water and sudden changes in temperature.
  • Limit your exposure to sunlight on the tattoo, or at the very least, use a high-protection cream.
  • Wear clothing should not be tight.
  • Temporarily refuse any kind of sports training.

Do I get a tattoo in the summer?

Almost all professional tattoo artists advise against tattooing in the summer and late spring. They are primarily concerned about the negative effects of sunlight on tattooed skin.

Exposure to a fresh tattoo to the sun or a lamp in a tanning bed usually causes the dyes to fade. In addition, solar radiation stimulates blood flow, which can cause the tattoo particles to move. In practice, this means that exposure to the sun can cause the tattoo to "spill".

Some tattoo artists recommend not exposing a tattoo to sunlight for one month after it is applied. A more radical recommendation is not to expose the tattoo to the sun for up to six months.

With a fresh tattoo, you should not take a sea bath and you should avoid chlorinated water. Tanning and sauna sessions are also not recommended.

Tattooing - not a cheap pleasure

The cost of a tattoo is traditionally determined by its size. For example, a tattoo the size of a pack of cigarettes costs an average of 3-4.5 thousand rubles in tattoo salons in Krasnoyarsk. However, according to tattooists, the method of determining the price by the area is outdated and many are now passing on to the hourly payment. - The master estimates the complexity of the design and figures out how much time the work will take. On this basis, he quoted a price. On average, an hour of work costs 1-1,500 rubles", Smirnov said.

Most clients of local tattoo parlors spend 3-5 thousand rubles for a tattoo," Smirnov said. However, there are also real fans. These are regular customers of tattoo studios who can do one tattoo for years, constantly apply new ones and end up spending hundreds of thousands of rubles.

Professionalism of Krasnoyarsk masters of tattoo and equipment level of salons today is on a rather high level. If in 90th years in the order of things was to use self-made paints and cars, now such practically you will not meet. Most local tattoo salons use professional imported paints and equipment. Some even supply them to the local market.

Stage 2: healing.

Duration: 2-4 days. During this time you need to perform 6-12 procedures to change the compress. Perform them better in the morning, before going to bed and if possible in the middle of the day. The compress protects the tattoo from contact with the external environment, clothing and bedding. Removal of biological fluids stimulates the regeneration of skin cells.

  1. To change the primary and subsequent compresses, remove the diaper. It will be saturated with suds and other bodily fluids, and you will most likely see a complete imprint of your tattoo on the inside of the diaper. Don't be alarmed, some of the paint always comes out. This is normal.
  2. In warm running water (about 40C) you need to rinse the wound quickly and thoroughly with soap and water. Gently but carefully remove all secretions with a clean hand or with the pads of your fingers until the skin "squeaks". The procedure should take no more than 1-2 minutes. Do not use sponges, washcloths, pumice stones or other abrasives.
  3. Gently blot the tattoo with a disposable paper towel. Wait 5-10 minutes for residual moisture to evaporate from the surface of the tattoo.
  4. Thoroughly rub a special healing product into the tattoo. You can buy it at our studio. We recommend using Doctor Pro™ - an inexpensive and effective gel from the Russian manufacturer Tattoo Pharma.
  5. Cover the tattoo with a fresh absorbent diaper. Securely fixate it on the body with a plaster, elastic bandage or mesh fixation bandage (depending on the area of the body).

Sleep/work/live in this dressing, making sure it does not move or move off. After 6-10 hours, repeat the procedure: remove the diaper, rinse thoroughly, dry, apply a healing agent, cover with a new diaper and secure the compress.

Why is it so important to rinse the tattoo in time? As with any wound, a tattoo will develop a crust of blood and debris. The thinner this crust is, the faster the healing will be, your tattoo will be brighter and retain its color better. By washing the tattoo thoroughly with soap and water, you wash away the blood stain. It does not have time to accumulate. The swaddling soaks up the blood, prevents it from drying out and protects the tattoo from mechanical influences and the external environment. At the same time the skin under the diaper breathes freely, which is very important for healing.

The sooner a thin film appears on the tattoo - the brighter the colors will be. Thick crust and redness around the tattoo at the end of the second stage is a sign of inadequate care for the tattoo. The following steps are not applicable in this case. Contact the master immediately.

Tattoos on the legs

One of the most unusual places for tattoos are considered legs, on a woman's body they look elegant, emphasizing femininity. The figure can be absolutely different sizes and themes, can be both small and large, covering the whole leg, which depends not only on the flight of fancy of the "customer", but also on the skill of the tattooist.

The most common place for a tattoo is the thigh, and as for images, the most popular are butterflies, flowers and stars of various shapes. There is an opinion that the tattoo on the leg is a "feminine" kind, which is not true. In this matter, there is no difference between a man and a woman. Currently, many members of the stronger sex also "wear" them, stopping his choice on the Celtic themes, weapons, as well as representing crosses, etc., thus emphasizing their masculinity.

This type of tattoo is very practical, because at any moment it can be hidden from public view, because there are rules of how to look in a particular environment and place, but this is not the last reason why lovers of body art choose this place.

But do not forget that this place is considered one of the most painful, which is why it is rare, this is due to the fact that there are bones nearby, so girls with a low pain threshold should pay attention to softer areas. Although, if desired, the master can anesthetize the place of application, but many of them do not take anesthesia well.

According to the dictate of the soul

Tattoo, as well as fashionable clothes, jewelry and accessories is meant to attract attention and express individuality. However any unambiguous motives and fashion trends in the tattoo of the master difficult to allocate. - So that this season everyone indiscriminately stabbed one, and the next another, we do not. Here, as they say, in what is good, who has enough imagination. The only thing I would point out is that lately people prefer not to choose tattoos from our catalogs, but to bring their own drawings, sketches. It has become fashionable to pierce inscriptions in different languages," says Elena Tumanova, director of Extreme Studio.

According to Vladimir Smirnov, a global trend in tattoo art - realism - has now arrived in Krasnoyarsk. - Conventionally speaking, if before people were tattooing patterns, flowers, birds, little animals, nowadays there are portrait, photographic images. Some bring their loved ones, but mostly the image idols - pop and rock stars, politicians, movie stars - explains Smirnov.

Administrator tattoo salon "Catherine" Anna Gladiychuk added that an increasing number of customers who do tattoo for cosmetic reasons - to correct the mistakes of youth. The removal of stale tattoo often leaves ugly scars on the skin, so many people instead prefer to disguise the bluish gore with some neat tattoo.

If we talk about the places on the body where tattoos are most often pierced, everything is traditional here: for men - arms and back, for women - shoulder blades, shins, coccyx. There are clients who do tattoos in intimate places, for demonstration only to close people. As the head of one of the tattoo parlors put it, "some people find it exciting".

- Many clients can't explain at all why they need a tattoo. They say, "dictate of the soul" or something like that. So to say that a tattoo is just for decoration or self-expression is not quite right. Or rather, it's too simple. People's motives are more complex. Many people after getting a tattoo start to feel completely different, their lives change. For example, one of my clients, a girl, claimed that after we tattooed "the hieroglyph of happiness" on her leg, she "got better" in everything - in her studies, work, and personal life. All the same, doing a tattoo, a man encodes himself to something, - says the head of the tattoo studio "Diktatura" Vladimir Stepanov.

Tattoo and the sun

If, despite the contraindications, you decided to do a tattoo in the summer, you should learn the basic rules of care for it. The basis and at the same time the absolute minimum is to protect the tattoo from the effects of solar radiation. This protection should be two-wave.

On the one hand, the drawing should be hidden by clothing made of light and airy materials (linen, cotton or viscose). After the tattoo has healed (after about 10 days), it should be lubricated with a cream with a 50% filter. In addition, during the hottest part of the day (between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.) it is best to stay indoors.
