The new repertoire played a cruel joke on Pelageya - her songs have almost disappeared from the radio. The music supervisors think it is too depressing. But "Valenki" is understandable and enjoyable for everyone! Pelageya: "It annoys me when people think that Russian folk music is just 'kalinka and malinka'. Creepy women in kokoshnikas, men with balalaikas in their hands, bears on a leash - and they try to pass all this pseudo-Russianness off as folklore! Well, that next to me was always my mother - she unobtrusively corrected and guided me. And otherwise - who knows, what and where I would sing.
